Bei Julie Annes Blog schaue ich immer wieder mal vorbei, sie schreibt sehr gut und es sind auch immer interessante Fotos dabei, u.A. auch ältere aus ihrer Zeit mit Nick Rhodes und Duran Duran.
Heute muss sich Julie Anne an einer Operation am offenen Herzen unterziehen. Dazu hat sie vor einigen Tagen etwas geschrieben:
From My Heart to Yours
My mother always said "never judge a book by it's cover"... I'm living proof of that. People always tell me how young I look for my age, and I appreciate it, thank you! Most of it is probably down to good genes, but I do lead a healthy lifestyle. I don't drink, I haven't had a cigarette this century, I exercise most days, and my diet consists of mainly vegetables and greens, lean proteins, and healthy fats. I'm not professing to be perfect... I do still enjoy the odd indulgent meal or that decadent dessert on special occasions, but everything within moderation. There is definitely room for improvement... I should meditate more often, sleep much more than I do, and it would be nice to find someone special to share those meals with.
Having said that... did you know that couples are twice as likely to break-up between the December holidays and Valentines Day? That is a lot of broken hearts, or at least that is what we say it feels like when a relationship ends. I've been single for a long time, but I still have a broken heart...literally! So the moral of the story is "this book's" insides are not quite as good as it's cover. The good news is it can be fixed, and in time for Valentines Day!
I wish I could make a deal with the devil that... if I never ate another piece of fried chicken again in my lifetime, I could skip the open heart surgery... but mine is a mechanical malfunction, not a lifestyle or dietary one. I'm a survivor, so don't worry about me. Once I have the surgery I intend to have the energy of a teenager again... I'll be dancing on table tops before you know it!
I've written some blogs to keep you amused that will self-publish periodically, so please keep coming back. That doesn't mean I won't pop in occasionally... your support has been so comforting... especially when times are rough. I will most likely be out of commission for a few weeks while I recuperate, so please don't be offended if I do not reply to your comments right away. Thank you for understanding!

I come from a long line of table top dancers... my Grandma Ellie used to have a great time shocking everyone by climbing up there and having a good old time. My friend Julia just sent me a message that she will join me, and I'm sure she will!

Thank you more for the words of support for Tatjana. This is much scarier for her than it is for me. She has been a rock for me, and I am so proud of the woman she has become. Nick just called to wish me luck, and assures me he will be with her the whole time.
BTW, I am probably one of the only souls on earth who actually LIKES hosptital food. It means I get a break from the kitchen! xo

The Golden Ticket to Foodie Paradise!
In all honesty, open heart surgery is not a walk in the park. In fact I am beginning to think I could run for president of the wimp club (and win)... it has been tough. The upside... I feel like Charlie winning the golden ticket in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. My arteries all checked out squeaky clean, my blood sugar has remained normal, and my blood pressure couldn't be much lower with me still breathing... so I officially have the all-clear to eat whatever I darn well please! My cardiothoracic surgeon delivered the news in person along with a Hershey's kiss to celebrate. NO restricted diet necessary... I feel like I won a free pass into foodie paradise, or at very least, I've been vindicated that my diet is a healthy one.
Pesky little congenital defect corrected. One wee little problem left. It appears as though my getting my heart mended has the same effect on my appetite as getting my heart broken. I don't seem to have one. Therefore, it may still be a month or two before I feel up to whizzing around the kitchen concocting recipes. When I'm not blowing into silly looking contraptions, having my back pummeled with cups, or being frog marched around the house to build my strength back up... I am on a steady stream of Food Network in search of inspiration and a tinge of hunger... so please stay tuned!

Na, immerhin hat sie die OP gut überstanden, ich habe in den letzten Wochen schon öfter daran gedacht, wie es ihr wohl gehen mag.
Dass der Appetit nicht gleich wieder da ist, ist ja normal. Und so, wie sie schreibt, darf sie ja auch alles essen und muss sich an keinerlei Diät-Vorschriften halten. Es klingt ein wenig so, als hätte durchaus die Gefahr bestanden, dass sie das nach der OP müsste.
Also: weiterhin gute Besserung, Julieanne!

Ja, ich freue mich auch darüber. Liest du ab und zu in Julies Blog? Es tauchen dort immer wieder nette Fotos aus der Vergangenheit auf, die wir noch nicht kannten!

Ja, ich lese auch die Blocks von Julie Anne. Es sind wirklich einige sehr schöne Fotos dabei. Auch finde ich manche Rezepte für mich sehr interessant, ich schreibe sie mir ab, und koche es nach. Musst du mal probieren, echt leckere Sachen dabei.

Die Rezepte muss ich wirklich mal probieren, viele klingen lecker (ich bin Vegetarierin aber zum Glück sind auch recht viele vegetarisceh Gerichte dabei). Auf You Tube gibt es ein Filmchen, in dem Julie selber Pesto zubereitet, das wäre mal was für mich.

Bei Julie Anne gibt es regelmässig Uptdates im Blog. Sie sind immer sehr amüsant zu lesen, ich mag ihre Art zu schreiben sehr.

Pop Stars, Yachts, and Whirlwind Romance
You know the saying "if you can remember the sixties, you didn't live through them." Well my memory of the eighties (and it's decadences) are like shards of light through Swiss cheese. More come into focus when I meet up with friends that shared those experiences. One such illumination happened last Saturday.
I met Monique St. Pierre August 2nd, 1982. I know, because I met my future husband the same day. Monique watched us fall in love in the dinghy out to a yacht in Long Beach that belonged to the owner of Cherokee Studios. He was hosting a party for Devo, Elvis Costello, and some English band I'd never heard of called Duran Duran. It was love at first sight, Nick and I were oblivious to anyone else on the boat. At the end of the day we all boarded a coach back into LA that stopped at the airport on the way.
Duran Duran were opening for Blondie the next day, and had to catch the red eye to get there. Nick looked at me and said "I can't go without you". I'd never done anything that wild or spontaneous before, but when Nick assured me that Monique would be coming too, that somehow made it feel okay. What I didn't know until last Saturday, was that my ex husband's manager, Michael Berrow, had to plead with Monique, "Please come, if you don't, Julie Anne won't and Nick won't get on that plane without her." She was much more savvy than I. She made sure she had a round trip ticket in her hot little hands. If she'd said no, my life might have turned out significantly different.
So off we went into the sunset with the band and nothing but our swimsuits. Monique and I nearly wet ourselves laughing, remembering how she managed to make a dress out of a piano shawl, and I borrowed a t-shirt and pair of Nick's trousers (which were 3/4 length pants on me) to wear to the gig the next evening. There was a momentary panic as Duran took the stage. "What if we don't like their music? Do we lie?" Monique whispered to me. Once they started playing there was an audible sigh of relief.
Monique witnessed many of the escapades and drama that ensued. A couple weeks later the guys flew us to New York for the end of the tour, and a party at Debbie Harry's place afterwards. It must have been a good party since all either of us can remember is a vague memory of Andy Warhol accompanying us, and Marianne Faithful taking care of refreshments (hence the fog).
Next stop was Ibiza for a holiday, which unfortunately was the trip I took several rolls of out-of-focus film on. Sadly I do not have pictures of an inebriated Nick diving under the ropes at the Pacha club to pet the "cute kitty" that was about to bite the lion tamers head off. I don't have pictures of Nick, Michael, and Monique ribbing me for refusing to eat oysters with them one evening, however, I did get the last laugh when the three of them spent the next forty-eight hours hugging the porcelain throne. Nor do I have Monique's favorite - us girls sitting clean-faced in the pool while Nick posed in full on make-up all day, every day. I'll never forget the look on her face when I told her Nick asked me to move to London. "You can't do that... you've only known him for three weeks!" Too late, I was hopelessly in love.
